Google vs Microsoft

I’m a McSoftie, I’ve been using Microsoft technologies for years and made some good money doing it. I’ve been a hardline evangelist for them and have always had faith that they would eventually provide me with what I need. The Firefox craze is a great example, I’ve looked at it (and felt a little dirty ;) ) but I’ve never installed it. I had faith (now vindicated by IE7) and stayed true.

Forgive me Bill, for I have waivered. I have thouroughly enjoyed plowing through Google’s offerings and exploring their technology. They’ve got some REALLY cool stuff going on over there. I believe I have installed everything that Google has released to the public and played with it very heavily. I’ve been really impressed. But, I still believe in Old Faithful to provide me with every cool little feature Google is throwing around out there.

So, this section of my blog is going to review and compare Google and Microsoft technologies and we’ll see if Microsoft can topple yet another company.

Never going to happen. As far as search goes, its Google’s game to lose and at this point despite all the talent M$ seems to purchase, they still can’t manage to get their search right. The days of M$ ‘toppling’ other companies through innovation are over (did they ever start?) now M$ wins over thier competition in court; and who does this profit? Well M$ of course, we as users of these technological products are left empty handed as the worlds largest software maker refuses to innovate, instead staying its course of buying up the competition, stealing ideas and generally trying to blanket themselves on to all aspects of the technical market until we have no choice but to depend on thier bug riddled, insecure and otherwise unsupported waste. They’ve finally come up against a company who has the financial backing with which to compete with M$ on its favorite field of play, Microsoft will be forced to innovate or lose. Given their track record, I believe we already know the outcome…

I must agree, My MSN is better than I Google, but lacks the ability to create small javascript widgets, like maps, clocks or special searches.

    Google page is more developer-oriented.

Funny… I was never pro Microsoft until I found myself sitting on campus for an in person interview… Totally agree that Google (and other) have lots of cool stuff.

I may be the last person on the web who doesn’t ‘get’ the rivalry thing… there is so big a pie… and so many cool directions that each could take…

I love my Live gadgets… I love my igoogle homepage changing background…

tonight I just want everyone to be one happy mash up!
