Getting back into it

Man, life has been pretty crazy lately! I’m finally getting caught back up on things at the office after taking a week off. I’m just going to brain dump a bunch of things in this post to get things going again.

Our baby was born (the cause of me getting behind) we’re naming her Serenity Burns, she has her own website and blog – I need to keep caught up on posting there as well!

We’ve got a location for the next Geek Dinner – Brick Oven in Provo at 6:30. It’s going to be a lot of fun, Corporate Aliance, my favorite business networking company, is going to be ‘presenting’ by helping us all get to know each other and network! I’ve been wanting to have these guys come for a while and I’m really looking forward to it! As always, please RSVP if you’re planning on coming to the dinner!

Plans for the first Utah Bloggers Association meeting are in the works! We’re going to do a luncheon on July 25th – mark your calendars! Official announcement should be coming today.

Laura Moncur got in touch with me this week, she’s excited to help out with BarCampUtah, we’re meeting on Monday to team up on it! Get in touch with me if you’re interested in helping out as well!

My good friend Lance Black is finally blogging! Make sure you check his new blog out. He has a good review of the Corporate Alliance Hub Club boating event that I atteneded yesterday, it was sponsored by Heringer Marine and it was a blast!

Paul beat me to blogging about it, but I finally hired a new assistant – Carolynn Duncan – read Paul’s post about how she got our attention with a blog! She is doing an awesome job! She’s working hard on getting me organized and is really focussing on making me more effective. When I hired her, I asked her to listen to this great 3 part series from Manager-Tools (one of my favorite podcasts) on effective admins. It describes to a T what I’m hoping for in an Executive Assistant and she has made that her benchmark for her job description. In the past week she has lifted mountains of stress off my back with the hundreds of little things that I never seem to have time to get done. Her second and third assignment was to read Good to Great and Getting Things Done. I can’t tell you how glad I am to have Carolynn working with me!

I’m EXTREMELY excited to announce our latest community initiative – Entrepreneur Conversations! Check out the details on the blog, but we’re going to be bringing the authors of some of the best business books ever written (Paul’s and my must read list is the starting point) out to Utah to talk to us! I think this is going to be a lot of fun and very educational.

Well, that’s all off the top of my head, more coming soon!

Can I put in my request for pretty URLs on your friend Lance’s blog and the Entrepreneur Conversations blog? They both have that ugly ?p=123 in the URL of the posts. Go into WordPress Options, then Permalinks to prettyize it.

P.S. Welcome back, Phil. Geek Dinner with Corporate Alliance will be sweet, the hire of Carolynn was awesome, BarCampUtah will be fun, and I’m looking forward to reading Entrepreneur Conversations.
