From My Phone to Flickr to Twitter to Your Phone

Last week, I wrote about an almost flickr to twitter system – I’ve been communicating with Chris, the developer of rss2twitter since then and yesterday he pinged me and told me it was ready!

Let me quickly re-iterate the idea behind my suggestion. On Twitter, we’re already following each others lives pretty closely. One big thing that was missing though was the ability to share pictures of what you’re doing – how cool would that be? To not only twitter in real time that you’re at a geek dinner or something, but to feed pictures into that stream. Well, now it can be done!

Chris made a special rule in rss2twitter that reformats flickr feeds so you get a link in twitter to the picture. This whole scenario works best when you’re thinking mobile phone to mobile phone, both with internet connections. Now I can share snapshots of what I’m doing with my friends on twitter. So, will this just increase the amount of time sucked in by Twitter (which is really minimal)? Maybe, but it will also make the experience much richer.

I’ve never met Chris, we’ve only discussed rss2twitter, but I’m impressed by him. He not only built this service and made it available to everyone, he was totally open to suggestion and very quickly implemented it. Huge kudos to Chris and his crew at rss2twitter!

I’m now running my flickr feed through rss2twitter, you can check it out here or, for just my flickr2twitter here.
