FitBlogging 26 May 2007 – Bad and Worse

Today has been a really lame day for fitness which is frustrating because I was pretty excited about today all week. First of all, our race today got cancelled – we were supposed to go to a 5k at The Homestead Resort in Midway. Not really sure why it was cancelled, just that it was. We found out about that yesterday.

So, we decided we’d just go running on our own and do a few miles. We walked half a mile to our starting point and my headphones were tangled so Adria took off and I was going to catch up. I got my iPod all straightened out, put it on and pressed play – expecting to hear Metallica’s Sanitarium (an original Napster MP3 by the way ;) )to get me going. The stupid thing was dead! I have 4 iPods and a Zune and I run with a clippie shuffle because it’s small and clips. Thing is, there is NO feedback on it – I had no way of knowing the batteries were dead! So, I threw it in the ditch and took off running.

The first mile is usually a little rough for me as I’m loosening up and such, but this hurt my lungs bad! I’ve been feeling a touch fluish for the last day but was going to just ignore it. 3/4 of a mile into it, I felt like I was going to pass out so I stopped running and walked the last quarter mile. By then I had my wind back so I picked it up and ran another 1/2 mile – at which point I thought I was going to pass out and all of my joints and muscles were feeling that achy flu feverish feeling. Adria was there and she felt differently but wasn’t feeling good at all. So, we stopped and started walking home which was, by now about 2 miles away. As we were walking both of us started feeling worse and worse. We decided that if we had a phone with us we would call our teenage daughter that only has a permit and have her come pick us up.

Anyway, we finally got home and both of us still don’t feel good. I’m bummed because I was really looking forward to this run and instead today has not a good day for fitness at all! Adria thinks I’m probably getting sick because of all the super long hours I’ve been putting in and not getting enough sleep.

Oh – I’ve lost somewhere around 6 -10 pounds in the last few weeks. I’m not sure exactly because it fluctuates quit a bit.
