Date: Tues, August 7th 2007 – 5:30 pm
Location: TBA
This is for you if:
- You are a business owner or a decision maker, thinking about your business’s presence in Facebook (you should be thinking about it – if you’re not, then come to learn why you should be)
- You are a programmer interested in getting a boost on the Facebook API (it can be rather confusing)
- You would like to find a programmer you can contract with to develop your Facebook App
- You’re not sure what any of this is talking about, but you’re curious
The Utah Facebook Developers Garage is going to be an informal gathering with a couple presentations followed by an hour hack session. Everybody will probably find one of the presentations to be dull – it’ll depend on your interest, but we’re going to cover everything Facebook. Here’s the plan:
- Session 1 (15 minutes): Overall Facebook – What it is and why it’s important (from a business perspective)
- Session 2 (20 minutes): Business Models in FaceBook – A Case Study (what works and what sucks)
- Session 3 (25 minutes): The Facebook API – Building your first Hello World app
- Session 4 (10 minutes): The Facebook API – FBML & a quick rundown of some advanced topics
- Session 5 (60 minutes +): Hack Session (with help available)
Nobody is an expert at the Facebook API yet, but we’ll have some people there that have built a couple apps who will be willing to work the room and help anyone in a jam.
Come with an app in mind! If you’re not a programmer, come to hook up with a programmer who is willing to do some contract work for you. If you’re a programmer and do contracting, come with business cards and expect to find some contracts!
I’ve got a location in mind and a sponsor lined up to cover it – we’ll have wireless access available so plan to bring your laptops and work on the net. Because it’s the weekend, I won’t have the location nailed down until Monday, but I’ll announce it here once I have it.
If you are interested in participating, join the Utah Facebook Developers Garage Group on Facebook – that’s where all the talk will be!
If you’re a programmer and are already working with the Facebook API and would be interested in being on our tutorial team, please contact me.
