Geek Dinner a Smashing Success!

Wow! Tonights inaugaral Geek Dinner was FANTASTIC! I hope everyone had as good of a time as I did! It seemed that everybody was well engaged and enjoying themselves. I have no idea how many people we had there, but it was well over 60! Considering that we announced it less than a week ago, I’m very impressed with the way word spread so quickly.

Whether you were able to go or not – if you would like to be on our email list for future events, please sign up on our registration page.. I’ve added a few areas to the wiki for conversation about DevUtah’s Plans, please join in the discussion!

A special thanks to Dr. Windley for taking the time to give us a great keynote!

Scott Lemon, Brent Davis and I had a good chat after the dinner and came up with what we think is a great idea for the next Dinner – Speed Networking! We’ll arrange it so that we have several tables setup, we’ll have some lists of things to have prepared for discussion and we’ll spend 15 minutes or so at the table, introducing ourselves and talking for a bit about problems, solutions, whatever. Then we’ll mix it up by having a rotation plan and everyone will move to a new table and new set of people to talk to. The idea is to introduced to as many people as possible in a very short amount of time. I think this is a great idea and would be a lot of fun! What do you think?

I love the ideas in your post. I very much enjoyed the geek dinner last night and being able to meet and interact with new people. The “who’s looking for work” and “who’s hiring” portions of the dinner should be a standard feature. I think the “Speed Networking” ideas are great. Looking forward to the next one.

I agree that the dinner was a big success. I am glad I was able to go. I can’t wait for the next one. I will be there for sure. The “Speed Networking” sounds like a good idea.
