CTO Breakfast Meeting

I attended the CTO Breakfast today, it’s a local gathering of technologists that’s held each month. It was my first time going and was very interesting. There were about 30 people there and it was kind of an organized chat where everyone could input if they wanted.

Scott Lemon talked about some very intriguing discussions/talks that he heard at the Accelerating Change conference. He specifically talked about the research of Vernor Vinge and Ray Kurzweil as it relates to reaching a Technological Singularity and the acceleration of technological developments to the point that humans will no longer be able to keep up with it. The interesting hypothesis is that we will reach this point around 2030 or so. There was also some cool discussion about nanotech and an existing? nanobot that acts as a blood cell, but is much more efficient. With this nano-blood, they have theorized that a human who had been given a shot of the nanoblood could survive underwater for up to four hours due the the huge amount of oxygen that the nanoblood can carry! I’ll be looking for more information about this incredible development! I am now hoping to attend the next Accelerating Change conference.

We also heard from the Utopia group and discussed how the Utopia network would support ‘service providers‘ on the infrastructure they are building.

I’m very glad I decided to attend this! It was very interesting and thought provoking. Thanks Dr Windley for hosting it.

I haven’t had a whole lot of time to read this weekend but what I’ve read so far is fascinating and I’m seeing several things I want to blog about. [...]
