I’ve been wanting one of these for a couple months now but i wasn’t sure that it would really work as advertised and was waffling on whether to get one. Then Scoble talked got one similar to it and talked about how awesome it was. The final kicker for me was that we started having problems with our router at the office yesterday and suddenly no one could get on the internet.
So, while I was at the Verizon store yesterday I started looking at their stats for their Aircard and decided I was going to give it a shot. Last night I tuned off the wireless antenna on my laptop and fired up the card – and can barely tell a difference! It’s a little bit slower than wireless when I’m downloaded a graphic heavy page but other than that I can’t really tell that I’m not using wireless. Now whenever I’m at an airport, hotel, in my car or whatever I’ll be able to get on the internet. Sure, I have wireless browsing on my Treo 700w but it just isn’t the same. I highly recommend getting one of these (with whatever wireless service) to anyone that needs to get on the internet regularly away from home or the office. This is going to have a huge impact on my productivity!

Yes. New computers, those that hit the market either late last year or in 2006, are being built with Express Card slots, which transfer data quicker than the Type II variety. The problem is nearly all wireless air cards are still being made to fit the Type II card slot. Expres wireless aircards are in the testing phase, but I am still reseaching if any have been released yet. The dilemma is whether you want to wait a few months until you can buy a Verizon aircard that will fit your new computer, or return your computer and get one that still has a Type II slot so that you can still use your Verizon Type II aircard. That’s a problem I’m facing myself, because I just bought an HP that has the Expres Card Slot, but I have a Sprint aircard that won’t fit it. Good luck.

i have had all sorts of problems with the verizon wireless V740 aircard in my toshiba laptop. everytime i go online i get kicked off 5 minutes later. and ill go into the VZ access manager and itll tell me that i am still connected with 3 bars. and verizon cant figure the damn thing out on it. they want to tell me everything works but it doesnt. they try telling my that the area my farm is in is a good coverage area. but it has nothing to do with the technical problems of the card.

I am planning to make a trip to Puerto Rico and I was wondering is it best for me to buy an aircard as opposed to adding the internet onto my blackberry? I just want to keep in touch with my family while I am out of town
