This morning Adria and I joined my Cousin Dave Biesinger and good friend Scott Lemon (who set everything up for us) at the American Towers in Salt Lake to watch the Key Bank Building be imploded. It was Awesome!!!
I took several pictures of the implosion and recorded it. However, my video camera seems to have eaten the footage and I can’t retrieve the video of the implosion. Fortunately, Dave got some awesome footage and has sent it over to me. So, here are my pictures of the demolition and the video footage Dave shot.
We got on site about 6:20 or so and got everything set up. About 6:40, there was a bright flash followed by a massive explosion – and nothing happened. That was followed up with constant smaller explosions for several seconds – all the while nothing was happening to the building (you could see flashes within the building though). Then suddenly, the west side of the building just sort of sunk. This was immediately followed with sections of the building from the west eastward. The entire implosion lasted about 15 seconds. After the building was down, there was a HUGE dust cloud that rose up.
I’m waiting on video footage from Dave, so I’m going to post the pictures now with the video forthcoming.
If you would like to see full size, full quality versions of these pictures, you can download the 75 meg file here.

I filmed the implosion from the 13th floor of the adjacent office tower. Here’s my footage: http://www.ryanbyrd.net/rambleon/2007/08/18/salt-lake-city-key-bank-implosion-video/

oh, and I also streamed it live to my website through a wireless connection over my cellphone, but now I’m just bragging…
